Saint Pauls Cemetery

Cemetery for:

        St. Paul’s Evangelical Church.   The church  was established in 1903 with Rev. Peitmannn serving as the first minister.  In 1963, the church merged with Emmanuel United Church of Christ.

Charter Members of the Church:    Friedrich Weinkauf family, Frank Koeppe family, August Koeppe family, Herman Schultz family, Martin Meyer family, Julius Ziebarth family

Information from the New Effington / Claire City Centennial Book:

 By 1907, an addition costing $132.65 was built.  The down payment was $87.  In 1907,  the remainder of $38 (included $3 interest) was paid.

1916 – Insurance coverage for the church was $1.15.

 In the beginning of the cemetery:

Northside – burial of members                                  Southside – burial of nonmembers

Cost of Small Lot – $3                                                  Cost of Large Lot – $5

At one one time, it was also called the Weinkauf Cemetery.  

The old church was sold to Frank H. Koeppe for $150.  In 1928, another church was bought in Grant Township in Section 3 and moved to this sight.  $500 was borrowed to move this church. 

A binder containing information about the cemetery is located at the SD State Historical Society in Pierre, SD and another at Emmanuel United Church of Christ in Hankinson, ND.
